The REEL Project of California uses fishing as a vehicle to connect youth, families, and underserved communities with the outdoors. Through mentorship and outdoor recreation, we build confidence, teamwork, and conservation ethics. Our mission is to create unforgettable experiences that foster leadership and positive relationships while empowering the next generation of environmental stewards.

Goals of The REEL Project
The Reel Project promotes positive mental health by creating opportunities for youth and families to disconnect from daily stress, reconnect with nature, build meaningful relationships and develop confidence.
YOUTH DIRECTOR
We believe time spent outdoors—combined with positive mentorship and life skills education—can improve emotional well-being, reduce isolation, strengthen self-esteem, and provide healthy coping strategies that last a lifetime.

Research has found that outdoor recreation, recreational fishing, and high-quality mentoring are associated with improvements in resilience, self-esteem, optimism, social-emotional development, and psychological well-being.
